About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and analytical Building Systems Project Engineer to join our Deployment Team. Reporting to the Senior Project Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the deployment and setup of Noda.ai's software products that improve operational performance and reduce the environmental impact of our customers’ buildings.
This role involves overseeing the installation and configuration of BACnet gateways that collect data from client Building Management Systems (BMS), coordinating with customer IT teams to resolve network and security challenges, ensuring data flow from site to cloud, and performing on-site assessments to document HVAC systems and major equipment. You will use SkySpark and Noda’s tools to model equipment relationships, mentor the equipment modeling team, and ensure successful data onboarding.
The ideal candidate has a background in building controls, a deep understanding of BMS protocols, and hands-on experience with HVAC systems and integration project
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee installations of BACnet gateways and connectivity to customer BMS networks.
Collaborate with customer IT departments to configure and troubleshoot networking and firewall settings.
Validate data transmission from customer sites to the Noda.ai platform.
Conduct site walks to document mechanical systems, major equipment, and HVAC plant schematics.
Use SkySpark and Noda’s data modeling tools to map points, relationships, and equipment hierarchies.
Serve as the technical point of contact for assigned deployments, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.
Mentor and support the equipment modeling team, sharing best practices and ensuring data quality.
Review control drawings, sequences of operation, and BMS configurations to confirm accurate data mapping.
Participate in refinement of Noda’s open-source Ontology Alignment Project (OAP) data model.
Support commissioning of analytics, KPIs, FDD (Fault Detection and Diagnostics), and reporting features.
Document progress in project management tools and communicate updates with stakeholders.
Contribute feedback to Product and Technology teams to improve deployment processes and tools.
Travel up to 5 to 10 days per month, with potential for short periods of extended travel depending on project needs.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience in building systems or controls integration.
5+ years of experience with building HVAC systems and controls.
Background in building automation or controls integration strongly preferred.
Experience with BACnet (IP and MSTP), Modbus (TCP/RTU), and other BMS protocols.
Hands-on experience with BMS software platforms such as Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider, Distech, Delta, ALC, Trane, Carrier, or Niagara.
Experience using SkySpark for data analysis, FDD, or tagging is a plus.
Familiarity with semantic data modeling and tagging frameworks (e.g., Haystack, Brick, OAP).
Working knowledge of time-series data systems and building analytics platforms.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting control drawings, sequences of operation, and equipment schedules.
Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience mentoring junior engineers or supporting cross-functional teams.
Scripting or programming experience (Python, Axon, or similar) is a plus.
